Project: Design logo for the City of Beaver Dam’s community center
The Meaning Behind the Name
Every quality destination needs a iconic name. Members of the Communication Task Force were asked to come up with a name that would be inviting to all and not limit the facilities appeal and use. Rochelle Stibb of Design Advertising in Beaver Dam proposed “The Watermark”. A watermark is a recognizable image or pattern on paper which appears as various shades of lightness/darkness when viewed by transmitted light. A watermark is also the imprint made by the rising and lowering of the level of water in a body of water.
Just as Beaver Dam Lake and River have made their imprint on Beaver Dam through various ways, this facility will make an imprint on the people it serves. Therefore, the committee believed “The Watermark” would be a fitting name. Located on the west bank of the Beaver Dam River, the Watermark showcases our community’s connection with our lake and river by incorporating a flowing water pattern in the logo which Design Advertising and LocaLeben cooperatively designed.
